NetSuite vs Salesforce CRM – Comparison of Integration and Customization Features

January 10th, 2013 by

Netsuite vs Salesforce - 2013/2012 Comparison of Features

This article compares and contrasts the Integration and Customization features of two of the top CRM systems available – Salesforce.com and NetSuite.

Integration problems and ease of customizations seem to be a challenge for many CRM systems, including Salesforce.com and NetSuite.  In a CRM system, users typically want everything to be integrated right away as well as have a way to customize its features to fit their operations.  The importance  of integration and customization in a CRM system will be revealed in the following discussion.

Integration-A Comparison of NetSuite and Salesforce

With its order management in place, NetSuite would allow its users to view any back-office transactions in full detail.  It’s a package that shows seamless integration between CRM and accounting without the need of add-ons whatsoever.

Sales people need to accomplish regular day-to-day functions. For a Salesforce.com user, some core features which are functionalities of a CRM are described as “bolt-on’s” where users are exposed to extra costs.

Cost in time and finances are the factors that add up to these “bolt-on’s” wherein licensing, support, implementation and renewals are separate from the core application of Salesforce.com.

One complaint of Salesforce.com is that there is no automated upgrade ready to attach to its existing modules.  Third party functionalities will not be able to attach automatically to the existing modules.  You will have to reinstall any revisions or add-ons that would be available.

These add-ons will only give point-to-point connectivity from your existing application to the new featured application.  It will not be able to revert back to back office information since the add-on will just pick up information and will not be able to throw it back to update your original database.

Contrasting the Customization Options of Salesforce and NetSuite

With Suitescript toolkit of NetSuite, customization of business processes is a breeze.  It is a beauty for all NetSuite users where it allows its users to run the businesses system the way they’ve always wanted it in a system.  There is nothing more convenient in a system being able to use a system custom fit to your particular needs.

What is more explicit in these customizations is that whenever upgrades are presented, these customizations are retained and automatically maintained.  Salesforce.com does not have a similar toolkit.

In terms of user definition, the Salesforce alternative, NetSuite, is more customized regarding to user functions.  NetSuite dashboards come with 15 pre-packaged roles which give each user a unique access to the system and more defined roles with regards to system functionalities and reporting.

Salesforce.com limits such function of user definition to administrative function.  Everything needs definition from an administrator and nothing can be done without administrative permission.  This gives users a tied-hand in terms of system flexibility and efficiency in operations.

Our Review: NetSuite Appears to be a Better Alternative to Salesforce.com

All in all, integration and customization forms a major role in defining an efficient and user-friendly system.  With NetSuite’s advantage over integration and customization, it is no longer a question why Salesforce.com users would make the big switch.

Finding Better CRM Alternatives

The recent blog article by CRM analyst Lauren Carlson had acknowledged Salesforce.com as the leading CRM provider in the world today. This comment is made despite the differing opinions that are yielded in various CRM comparison surveys. Salesforce must have gotten this recognition because of its status as one of the first SaaS-based CRM products that were released in the market.

However, the prevalent trend in the market today is to not patronize products that have lingered or have monopolized the industry for quite some time. CRM users are now looking into other CRM alternatives that would provide them a better alternative for their company and a more effective solution to their business processes.

In this article, we will classify the top 5 alternative CRM solutions to Saleforce.com into 2 categories of focus: The amount of programs that can be integrated in to the CRM and the level of user support.

Integrated Programs

The first alternative system that comes to mind when users try to compare CRM programs is Microsoft Dynamics CRM. It is perceived to be convenient in the level of integration because of the fact that it easily synchronizes with all the other Microsoft applications that almost every person in the planet is already aware of. That means that a company does not have to bother spending money and efforts in training its personnel on new programs anymore. However, that is hardly the need for any business whose objective is to seek an effective CRM solution.

The next alternative CRM option would be Netsuite’s OneWorld CRM, known for its exceptional performance in accounting and ERP. It is also a program where users can expect a solid and complete integration because of tools that are useful for sales and service automation.

User-Friendly Applications

The third alternative CRM package is from Oracle with its latest release, CRM On-Demand 18. Its arrival is very significant due to the fact that it differs highly from Salesforce’s CRM software because of its single-tenant architecture, a huge drift from the usual expectations of Salesforce clients who have been used to the inconveniences of a multi-tenant structure. This setting is very important at the viewpoint of those who wanted data privacy and sole ownership of utilized software and hardware.

The fourth CRM option is Sage’s SalesLogix, which is known for its firm foundation in global enterprise business processes.

That last but not the least alternative is SugarCRM, which is undoubtedly the world’s most popular and fast-rising CRM solution in the world today. This status is due to its exceptional ability to adapt to the business processes of the client rather than the usual trend of businesses adapting its processes to the CRM solution, a common Salesforce glitch. Sugar is also user-friendly and easy to assimilate into the business operations, having been packed with few but highly necessary tools to get pressure off the new user and enhancing productivity rates for the company.
